Week 2 Reflection

I am not going to lie, at the beginning of this week, I felt very overwhelmed as I was not confident in the meaning of action research, how to go about collecting data or even the topic I was going to research.

I found this weeks assignment very interesting as I learned there are nine topics that can be researched. I learned that the action research topic that is being researched needs to be related to the research so the person pursing the research feel confident in the research and can take ownership in it.

After completing the reading, I definitely felt more confident in m decision on my action research plan. I met with my site supervisor and she is overwhelmingly excited to see the results of my research as this happen to be the second one she was debating on using when she was completing her Action Research Project when she studied at Lamar University. We debriefed different ways I am going to collect my data, and set up a timeline to help keep it organized and not stressful or overwhelming.

I also had my Field Supervisor Conference this week with three other Lamar students. I was so nervous as I did not know what to expect. I definitely overreacted and after completing the conference, I had nothing to be nervous about. We discussed my progress and my Supervisor felt confident that I was on the right track. I feel that my Supervisor is going to be very helpful as he is very informative of the Lamar requirements.

On to week 3!!

  2. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Field Supervisor conference. I am a little hesitant as well. I am glad to know that it isn't as bad as it seems. I was able to find a project topic this week as well and I couldn't be more excited. Good luck with your project! I am hoping that we all can benefit from the good work of our colleagues!

  3. Thanks for the info on the Supervisor conference. I have mine tomorrow night. Although the readings and lessons have been quite helpful, I am still a little nervous about conducting my project. I think it's awesome that your site supervisor helped you come up with ways to collect data and worked with you on a timeline. That is going to be so beneficial in the long run. Good Luck on your project

  4. Thank you so much for your post! It has me thinking "I can do this!" I am glad your site supervisor and you are on the same page. And to have a time line implemented is awesome! It seems like you are on the right track! Thank you for the info with your field supervisor conference.

  5. Thanks for letting us know that meeting with the Field Supervisor wasn't that big of a deal. I haven't heard from mine yet- apparently her computer had crashed- so that is only leading to building more anxiety. Although I have found whatever I have gotten worked up about in this program ends up not being as big of a deal as I thought. I'm having that feeling will subside with each course we tackle.

  6. I can relate to the feeling of being overwhelmed with last weeks assignments. I panicked when I saw how much reading there was. Surprisingly, I was very interested in the text and learning about the nine areas of possible action research. I think it is great your site supervisor is excited and supportive of your plan. It makes it a littler easier when you have their support. Thank you so much for the helpful information about the meeting with the field supervisor. I feel a little more at ease with your comments, thanks!

  7. Lauren, I just completed my action research plan. Yours helped me think of the steps to get mine done. Since we are to give comments for your assignment 3. I wanted to say I noticed that you did not have any reflective journal writing in your steps along the way might be a good idea to reflect on what you are observing and if new questions arise. Hope that helps.
